London’s very own singer-songwriter Conil, started creating a buzz with his debut album, Strange Part of the Country. But before the awareness of the album, Conil originally posted material on his MySpace page and received messages from two-time GRAMMY winner Tchad Blake and Danny Thompson wanting to work with him. Blake is best known for his work, producing for such artists as Elvis Costello, Peter Gabriel, Pearl Jam and Sheryl Crow, while Thompson is best known for the work he has done as a double bass player with Roy Orbison, Donavan, Kate Bush and Nick Drake. The album was finished and released on his own label, Great Hare Records and through Proper Music Distribution. The debut received glowing reviews from XFM, Xtreme AM, CMU Snap of the Day and BBC Radio, where Conil was also invited to play various live sessions on BBC stations. Q Magazine was quoted saying ‘Pray they live long enough to record a second album.’ Conil and his band supported Joseph Arthur on his UK summer tour last year at venues including London’s Union Chapel, Glasgow’s King Tut’s and Birmingham’s Glee Club. This year, Conil is scheduled to play SXSW and NXNE and plans to re-release the debut album under a new license.
